Island Batik Ambassadors Seaside Summer Blog Hop

It's time for my first blog hop as an Island Batik Ambassador!  I had a blast making my quilt for this event!

I was given the gorgeous Spring Zing collection of fabrics to play with:

I ended up using all the fabrics from the collection to make some really fun fish!

I started by cutting out a lot of really tiny (3/4 inch) hexagons using every fabric in the collection.  I also designed a fish and picked three fabrics to be the fish.  Then I got to work putting the hexagon scales on the fish.

The orange fish!

The purple fish!

The green fish!

As you can see above, I drew a triangular grid on my background fabric, another gorgeous fabric form Island Batik.  I then used this grid to do my quilting.  Here's a closeup:

I had a lot of fun quilting this quilt in a hexagon design!

A good day at the beach requires a snack.  Goldfish crackers would be too obvious, huh?  Well, here's my favorite summertime salad I bring to parties and would be great for the beach:

Veggie Pasta Salad

Ingredients:
1 package fresh mozzarella
1/2 pound salami
1 package rainbow colored pasta of your choice
1/2 bottle Italian dressing
1 package cherry tomatoes
1 small head of broccoli
1 small head of cauliflower
4 carrots
1 cucumber
1 zucchini
1 yellow squash
Green beans
And whatever other veggies you have!

Cut all veggies, salami, and mozzarella into small pieces.  Cook pasta following directions and run cold water through the pasta while it's in the strainer to cool it.  Mix all ingredients and about 1/2 a bottle of Italian dressing together and let sit for at least 1/2 hour.  Enjoy cool.  I love to go to the local farmers market and buy all these ingredients fresh in the summer.  It is a large recipe, so you may need to scale it down.

Island Batiks is giving away a GORGEOUS bundle of their batiks as a part of this bloghop!  You can enter by clicking on this link:  a Rafflecopter giveaway
