Fantastical Deviations
I was reading through the American Quilters Society Paducah Show entrance rules one year and discovered that they had a "Young Designers" category for the first time. The quilt had to be an original design. I had four months, but I got started right away. The applique in the outer borders were originally supposed to be quilting designs, but at a Ricky Tim's Retreat he recommended they be appliqued. I agreed and thus the deviation. It won 2nd place in it's category. I was thrilled beyond belief. One of my second grade students was sure that I could use the prize money to buy myself a house.
